Hori Madhuri · Pad 4
chañchala chalu, haṭu taju añchala-paṭa
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
Inebriated with the sweetness of divine love, a maiden of Braja says to Shyāmasundara, “Oh Naughty Shyāmasundara! Leave my añchala and go away. I am unmarried, and so are You. Look there, the maidens of Braja are watching us. If You really want to play Holī, I will stealthily come at Vanshīvaṭa, and also bring many pitchers filled with a motley of colours. Then You can play Holī with me to Your heart’s content. But let me tell You one very personal thing in Your ear. Don’t bring Your cowherd friends with You; come all alone.” Shyāmasundara trusted the gopī’s words. Realizing this, the gopī on the pretext of seeing Shyāmasundara’s pichakārī, took it from Him, and then, all of a sudden, drenched Him with its coloured water. Shyāmasundara was left embarrassed, seeing which, Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī exclaimed, “This is Holī! This is Holī! Don’t feel bad!” And, at the poet’s gesture, the gopīs too clapped their hands.
