karata hari, horī mahaṁ huradaṅga
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
Shyāmasundara is causing a great tumult in Holī. Oh sakhi! He is reminding one of Shaṅkara Jī doing Tāṇḍava dance. Vīṇā, flute, drum, tambourine, small timbrel, mṛidaṅga and upaṅga are being played uniquely. Shyāmasundara is throwing diverse colours through pichakārīs aiming at every limb of gopīs. Shyāmasundara, along with the gopīs, has become multi-coloured like a rainbow. So much red gulāla was flung that the earth and the sky - both became red. Thus, firstly because nothing was clearly visible through the densely flowing gulāla, and secondly because the gopīs had lost outer consciousness because of being intoxicated with love, they started applying gulāla on one another’s face thinking it to be Shyāmasundara’s. No one is conscious of her ornaments and clothes. It seems as if all are under the intoxication of bhaṅga. Seeing the gopīs thus grappling with one another, Shyāmasundara stealthily walked away and hid Himself in an alcove of clove-creepers. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says, “Blessed is that Leader of tricksters, and also blessed is this unique style of His playing pranks!”
