Hori Madhuri · Pad 2

āju horī rī, arī o rī gorī!

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

On the day of Holī, Shyāmasundara says to a sakhī, “Oh sakhi! Today is the colourful festival of Holī. All sakhīs are drenched with colour - both internally and externally, but it is very surprising that you are yet absolutely untouched with colour - both inside as well as outside. What is the reason behind it?” The sakhī replied, “My husband has gone out of Braja. How can I, a devoted wife, play Holī then?” At this, Shyāmasundara said, “Let me tell you an immensely important thing. But since it is very personal, I will say it only in your ears.” Then, He whispered in her ear, “Oh sakhi! Look at Me carefully and recognise Me. You are an individual soul and I alone am your real beloved.” The sakhī, too, looked at Shyāmasundara and was totally immersed in the bliss of divine love, breaking up the decorum of the world and the Vedas like a blade of grass. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says that after thus drenching the sakhī with the colour of divine love from inside, Shyāmasundara bathed her with coloured water from head to heel even from outside.
