Maan Madhuri · Pad 44
jahaṁ rahe raina jāhiṁ vohi ghara rī
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
One sakhī, siding with Shyāmasundara, asks for forgiveness from māninī Shrī Kishorī Jī on His behalf. In reply to her request, Kishorī Jī says, “Oh sakhi! Ask Him to go back to the house where He spent the night. Sakhi! You are extremely innocent and ignorant. You are pointlessly pleading at My feet on His behalf. The signs of love-sport are clearly manifesting themselves on His body. Is there a need of anymore proof? I have spent the whole night remaining awake, shedding rivulets of tears from both eyes continuously. He was merry-making at Chandrāvalī’s house, while here, I was burning in the fire of separation.” (The poet makes use of subtle humour here by referring to the literal meaning of the word ‘Kṛishṇa’ which is ‘darkness’ and that of ‘Chandrāvalī’ meaning ‘a row of moons’. As one knows, darkness and the moon are two opposite things, and therefore, thus can never be seen together. Hence,) Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī ironically remarks, “I am greatly surprised to know that Shrī Kṛishṇa and Chandrāvalī had been together!”
