hamāro kauna banego lāla?
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
(Mother Yashodā plays a very sweet trick for making child Kṛishṇa drink milk.) Maiyā cleverly asks, “Who wants to become my son?” And then, “Who will be good and do what I want him to do?” Before Balarāma can get a word in, child Kṛishṇa eagerly answers, “I!” Then Maiyā asks, “Who will drink the milk of Kajarī (the name of one of their cows)?” No sooner does He hear the name of milk than Kṛishṇa starts running. Maiyā grabs His hand and tries various tricks to get Him around to drink His milk, but baby Kṛishṇa is not willing to understand. Finally, coming up with an idea, Maiyā says, “Whoever drinks this milk gets a really long plait. And whoever drinks this also becomes really, really big!” Hearing this, little Kṛishṇa, caught in the net of Maiyā’s words like a parrot, becomes ready to drink milk. But at every gulp, He gropes through His hair to see whether His little braid is really growing big or not. All the cowherd boys start laughing at the innocence of Kanhaiyā. Thus, He gulps down all the milk in the hope of getting a long braid. (Mother Yashodā however, is left wondering how she will prepare Him to drink milk the next time if He sees no difference in the size of His braid.) Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī comes to her rescue and says in his words, “Whoever drinks milk after having been told only once gets such a long braid that it reaches the netherworld.”
