nanda-ghara niratata nandakumāra

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

(The poet compares baby Kṛishṇa, dancing in the house of Nanda with Bhagwan Shaṅkara.) Today, Shrī Kṛishṇa, looking like Shaṅkara Jī, is doing, as if the Tāṇḍava dance. White with dust, Shrī Kṛishṇa in Yashodā’s courtyard appears as if Shaṅkara Jī has smeared ashes all over his body. The garland made of big lotus-flowers adorning his neck seems to be the muṇḍamāla of Shaṅkara Jī. The blue colour in His peacock-feather is, as if the poison which beautifies Bhagwan Shiva’s throat, but thinking it to be poison, Shrī Kṛishṇa, instead of wearing it in His throat, has worn it outside His body in the peacock-feather. The tiger’s nail which Bhagwan Kṛishṇa is wearing, can be compared to the moon which Shaṅkara Jī wears on his head, the only difference being that Bhagwan Kṛishṇa has worn it around His neck unlike Shaṅkara Jī. The reason behind the change in places of the moon and the poison is that Bhagwan Kṛishṇa loves His lunar dynasty, therefore He embraced the moon by wearing it around His neck, and the poison is not dear to Him, therefore, He kept it in the peacock-feather. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says, “Thinking naked little baby Kṛishṇa to be veritable Shaṅkara Jī, Kāmadeva is feeling very much afraid lest this Shaṅkara Jī may turn him into ashes as he did once before.”
