karana lāge mohana aba chorī
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
A sakhī says to her intimate friend, “Oh sakhi! The son of Nanda has even learnt the art of stealing now. None is there to stop Him, nor is He afraid of anyone. He always behaves forcefully with everyone in the way He likes. Oh sakhi! I have heard from the sages that His body is not composed of flesh and blood etc. On the contrary, it is without attributes. So far as I understand, He has been described so because of possessing a deceitful intellect (for one meaning of ‘without attributes’ is full of vices). Oh sakhi! Listen, I am telling you one instance of His craftiness. One day, I was sleeping bolting all the doors. I don’t know from where, that magician got in and woke me up, shaking me badly. Because of the disruption of sleep, I got up in great anger and spoke to Him, ‘Oh Deceitful One! Don’t You feel sleepy even in the night?’ He replied, ‘Oh sakhi! One of your friends has been calling you for a long time standing at your door, that is why I have waken you up’. Believing Him, I rushed to the door to see that friend. I was tired of calling out for a long time but since there was no one, I got no response. Then, feeling irritated when I got back, I found that deceitful Shyāmasundara eating butter with both hands. As soon as He saw me, He even broke the earthen pot containing butter. Naturally, I was very angry; so I immediately caught hold of Him and took Him to Mother Yashodā. I said to her tauntingly, ‘Look, how virtuous your son is! Will you not believe me even now after clearly seeing butter on His face? Oh Yashodā Jī! You are very innocent not to believe us till today.’ Oh sakhi! How should I tell you what happened then? That King of magicians,” in the words of Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī, “assumed the form of my husband. When I turned around and saw him, I felt greatly embarrassed and leaving his hand ran away from there. The whole village made fun of me.”
