bairī basanta, sakhī! puni āyo

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

A virahiṇī says, “Oh sakhi! The hostile spring season has come again! Here, Yamarāja, the god of death has become the customer of our lives and there, Shyāmasundara has become infatuated by that worthless hunchbacked woman. Oh sakhi! The reddish new leaves of the mango tree are tormenting my heart. The mustard is also assuming swaggering airs, blossoming and swaying in the air. The sight of the swarms of hoverflies, humming sweetly on Kadamba-flowers, as well as that of the clusters of mango-blossoms has turned my mind absolutely crazy. Even the cool, gentle and perfumed breeze is adding fuel to the fire of separation in me, the virahiṇī.” In the words of Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī, “Despite this, the cuckoo is further intensifying my agony by cooing repeatedly.”
