chalana chaha, tanu taji mathurā prāna
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
The statement of the maidens of Braja towards Shyāmasundara, who, sitting in Akrūra’s chariot, is ready to leave for Mathurā with him. Oh sakhi! Listen to a wonder! The soul wants to go to Mathurā leaving the body behind. The individual soul is the body and God is its soul. Just as the material body made of five gross elements cannot survive without the soul, in the same way even the soul cannot exist without its soul, God. Hearing the news of Shyāmasundara’s departure, some sakhīs were left standing like statues, some clung to the chariot, some coiled around the horses’ feet and some lay down in the path of the chariot crying, ‘Oh beloved Shyāmasundara!’ Some of the sakhīs fell on the ground in a swoon after saying, ‘Oh cruel Akrūra!’ Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī humbly says, “Who is there so insentient besides me, who can bear this pitiable condition of the gopīs?”
