ūdho!, kahu kaba te agyāna
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
The maidens of Braja ask Uddhava, “Tell me, since when did ignorance enter the individual souls? If you consider ignorance to be beginning-less and endless (i.e. it never started and it will never come to an end), then your non-dualistic theory will no longer bear any weight, for then, two elements - Brahma and ignorance, will be proved eternal. If you state that ignorance had begun one day but it will never come to an end, then no individual soul will ever be liberated. If this ignorance is regarded to have both, the beginning as well as the end, i.e. it had started one day and it will also be destroyed one day, then it implies that even after attaining its real nature, which is devoid of even a trace of ignorance, the individual soul can again be controlled by ignorance. And lastly, if you consider that ignorance is beginning-less but not endless, i.e. it never began but it will come to an end one day, then listen to our question with open ears.” Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī asks Uddhava, “Why, then, have the Vedas regarded this world (creation) to be beginning-less and endless? Thus, Oh Udho! Your philosophy of non-dualism is proved wrong.”
