Virah Madhuri · Pad 9

arī sakhi!, piya saṁga nīṁda gaī

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

A virahiṇī says, “Oh sakhi! Even Sleep has become displeased with me along with beloved Shyāmasundara. Oh God! What has happened? Let somebody persuade Sleep on my behalf so that I can meet my Beloved at least in dreams.” Sleep said, “Oh sakhi! Think about the night when taking you in my lap, I was lulling you to sleep with great affection. Just then, your Beloved had come to meet you and returned seeing you asleep. At that time, you had abused me saying, ‘Oh worthless Sleep! It is only because of you that I could not meet my Beloved.’ Therefore, I have sworn not to come to you so long as your Beloved resides in your heart.” At this, Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī commented, ‘This worldly saying is absolutely justified that misfortune attacks only the weak and puts him to ever new troubles. The inference is that along with the agony of her Beloved’s separation, the virahiṇī is also forced to bear the pain of the separation of sleep.’
