kānha soṁ kahati kahānī māya

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

Mother Yashodā is telling a story to little Kanhaiyā because He is not able to sleep today and the mother wants to put Him to sleep somehow. She said, “Kanhaiyā! Listen to a story. There was a king in Ayodhyā named Dasharatha. He had four sons, namely, Rāma, Lakshamaṇa, Bharata and Shatrughna. Rāma was the eldest of the four brothers. He had a wife known by the name, Sītā. Both Rāma and Sītā were regarded incarnations of God by saints. Due to some reason, Rāma was exiled for fourteen years. In the forest, rākshasa Rāvaṇa kidnapped Sītā and took Her to Lankā by air.” As soon as Shyāmasundara heard this, He became extremely overwhelmed and saying, ‘Hā Sīte! Hā Vaidehī!’ started walking up from bed, weeping all the while. Seeing this strange condition of her son, Mother Yashodā was frightened. She ran and caught hold of Shyāmasundara’s hand. Shyāmasundara fell down in a swoon. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says that Mother Yashodā, embracing Shyāmasundara to her heart, said, “Alas! What has happened to my son? Oh God! Protect my child!”
