Shri Krishna Bal Leela Madhuri · Pad 5
pālane jhūlata bāla-gopāla
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
Baby Kṛishṇa is swinging in a cradle in Yashodā’s courtyard. Mother Yashodā is singing lullabies in a sweet voice, filled with various feelings of motherly love. She is swinging the cradle slowly, and feeling inebriated with joy, looking at her darling son again and again. Baby Kṛishṇa is embellished with all the adornments of a baby and is forcibly captivating the hearts of all the gopīs. Sometimes, holding His lotus-foot with His lotus-hand, He puts it in His lotus-mouth; and at other times, kicks both His little hands and feet, shrieking with extreme joy. Sometimes, all by Himself, He twitches His lips and makes infinitely sweet gūṁ gūṁ sound. Too little to recognize His mother well, He sometimes looks at her and sometimes starts looking in other directions with His big lotus-eyes. At times, closing His eyes, He starts crying without any reason. In order to please her baby, Mother Yashodā shows Him various toys, and also sings, clapping her hands. Still, the stubborn baby Kṛishṇa does not stop crying, instead He starts crying even louder. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says, “Realizing the reason of baby Kṛishṇa’s crying, I hurriedly took Him in my arms. No sooner did I do so than He stopped crying, because He was actually crying only to be taken in arms.”
