Siddhanta Madhuri · Pad 125

suno mana! sukha dukha nahiṁ sansāra

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

Oh mind, Listen! This world is equally devoid of happiness as well as sorrow. To strive for the attainment of happiness is soul’s natural nature; hence, those who presume happiness in this world love this world, and those who preconceive sorrow in this world, develop hostility towards it, because sorrow is against the nature of the soul. No individual soul loves unhappiness. Oh mind! Had there been happiness anywhere in the world, it would have been attained at least by someone sometime. Similarly, had there been sorrow in this world, it would have come in the experience of even saints who have attained supreme happiness. Therefore, there is neither happiness nor sorrow in this world. Besides, there is one more thing. Happiness is always unlimited. Worldly happiness, because of being limited cannot be termed as happiness. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says that Oh mind, there is yet one more point and that is, happiness can never be overcome by sorrow by any means whatsoever. Therefore, it is well proved that there is not even an iota of happiness in the world.
