māna mana! chhāṁd̤u māna apamāna
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
Oh mind! Accept what I say. Don’t be involved in the dispute of honour and insult. Just think: so long as you do not meet beloved Shyāmasundara, you will surely remain under the bondage of māyā. And one who is under māyā is always a repository of all vices. Then, on what basis do you want to be honoured? The pride of real reverence is justified only after Shyāmasundara’s attainment. Thus, because of being under māyā, and therefore full of vices, if a person feels bad upon being called iniquitous, how ignorant he is, whereas we see in the world that a blind man never takes offence at being called Surdāsa (i.e. blind). If you claim yourself to be free from all vices, how is it that the vice of anger enters your heart merely at being called reproachable? Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī states that now, becoming as innocent as a baby and humbler than a blade of grass, shed tears meditating on Shyāmasundara. Don’t think about respect and disrespect till you attain Shyāmasundara.
