Siddhanta Madhuri · Pad 44

chhāṁd̤u mana! sanaka tanaka sunu bāta

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

Oh mind! Abandon your undue obduracy. At least give a little thought to what I am saying. In your attachment to the world, you become happy in one moment, but in the very next instant become unhappy. Ponder a little, one person experiences happiness in one thing, another experiences grief and yet another is seen neutral. Now you tell yourself whether there is happiness in that thing or grief or neither of them. Oh mind! The amount of happiness which a person repeatedly presumes in a thing reverts in his experience and he mistakes it as the quality of that thing. Further, the amount of grief in the separation of a thing is exactly proportionate to the experience of happiness in it. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says, Oh mind! The world has neither happiness nor sorrow. Hence, detaching yourself from the world, take shelter in Shyāmasundara.
