morī torī lara, orī gorī! naṁda ko rī

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

(A gopī’s love-laden enigmatic complaint about Shyāmasundara to her intimate friend.) Oh sakhi! Nanda’s son broke my pearl chain. I had gone to the bank of the Yamunā with my friends yesterday. All of a sudden, that naughty Shyāmasundara came at that very place and said to everybody but looking at me, ‘Oh sakhīs! Has any of you stolen My chain of pearls?’ Since He was looking at me only, I, an innocent one, thought that He suspected me to be the thief, so showing to that Naughty one the pearl-chain around my neck, I asked little angrily, ‘Look, is this Your pearl-chain?’ He immediately came very close to me and holding the chain worn around my neck in His hand, on the pretext of checking it, wounded me with His sharp ogles. Then, He spoke in my ears, ‘You make Me only the chain of your neck so that I remain embraced to your neck always.’ Although I was intoxicated with love at hearing this, according to the nature of a woman, I said, ‘You are absolutely shameless.’ In the words of Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī, as soon as He heard this, He broke my chain, and saying to me hurriedly, ‘You and I make an excellent pair’, ran away.
