krūra! tū kata akrūra kahāya
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
(The utterance of the maidens of Braja towards Akrūra at the latter’s leaving for Mathurā taking with him their beloved Shyāmasundara.) Oh cruel-hearted! How were you ever named as ‘Akrūra’ (merciful)? What metal has your heart been made of which is as hard as crores of thunderbolts combined? What can I say about that place and that mother of yours, who blemished the title of a mother by giving birth to you! You don’t trust the pitiable condition of the sakhīs even after seeing it with your own eyes. You take our life instead, but don’t take the life of our life, Shyāmasundara, away from us. It is impossible for us to sustain our life without Him. In the meanwhile, Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī said, “Oh maidens of Braja! The word ‘Akrūra’ has Bahuvrīhi compound in it which means one, who is unequalled in the whole world in cruelty. Therefore, his cruel behaviour is only natural.”
