arī toya kahā bhayo? ‘kachhu nāhiṁ’
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
(One gopī, in order to know the secret of the love of her intimate friend, puts forth many questions to her which her virahiṇī friend answers with great cleverness, hiding her love.) Sakhī : “What has happened to you?” Virahiṇī : “Nothing.” Sakhī : “Then what do you always think about, sitting silently in solitude, remaining indifferent to the world?” Virahiṇī : “I always think, ‘I am Brahma, I am Brahma’ (Aham Brahmāsmi), according to the path of knowledge (gyānamārga).” Sakhī : “Why does your body tremble at times?” Virahiṇī : “Sometimes I tremble with fear, remembering the terrible tortures of hell.” Sakhī : “Why do you weep?” Virahiṇī : “No, I don’t weep; this is only the water of the infinite happiness of the Absolute Brahma (Brahmānanda), which flows from my eyes.” Sakhī : “Why do you take long breaths, then?” Virahiṇī : “I practise prāṇāyāma to control my senses.” Sakhī : “Why do you faint repeatedly?” Virahiṇī : “I enter into the state of trance.” Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī, addressing the virahiṇī says, “Oh virahiṇī! Why are you trying to hide your love for Shyāmasundara by concocting so many stories? We ourselves don’t want to go in the path of love.”
