Murali Madhuri · Pad 2

alī! morī, muralī kauna laī?

Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj

English meaning

(Bhagwan Kṛishṇa’s flute is missing and He is anxiously asking everyone about it.) Oh sakhi! Who has stolen My flute? I cannot enjoy even a moment’s peace without the flute. That flute is as dear to Me as My life. One gopī replies, “I have heard that someone burnt the flute by dumping it in the fire-pit yesterday!” (She is saying so because the flute used to burn the gopīs by inflaming in their heart the fire of beloved Shyāmasundara’s separation.) Another gopī said, “I not only heard but have also seen it somewhere (pretending to recall), but now I cannot remember.” Yet, a third mischievous gopī claps her hands and says with uncontrollable laughter, “Oh, it all happened for the best.” (She is teasing thus because the flute used to give great pains to all the gopīs.) These sarcastic remarks further irritated Shrī Kṛishṇa, and His eyes became swollen with tears. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says that Mother Yashodā was listening to all this. Therefore, consoling young Kṛishṇa, she said, “Why are You crying for the flute? I’ll send for a new one for You.”
