sakhī! sunu, vo mere mana bhāya
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
(A Braja-maiden meets beloved Shyāmasundara for the first time and when she tells about this sweet meeting to her intimate friend, the following conversation takes place between the two of them.) Oh sakhi! He has captured my heart. Her friend said, “Why are you concealing His name from me? Just tell me who He is.” The first sakhī replied, “Now that I have made Him my husband, how can I take His name?” At this, the other sakhī said, “Fine, don’t tell me His name but tell me the name of His village at least.” “I cannot tell you the name of His village also because it has the name of His father in it”, replied the first sakhī. (Vedic ritualistic religion prohibits it for a woman to address her husband and father-in-law by their names.) Hearing this, Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī said to the other sakhī, “I understood. ‘He’ whom she has accepted as her husband is none else but the beloved of all individual souls, Nandakumāra. (His village, Nandagrāma, has got the name of His father ‘Nanda’ in it.)”
