sakhī! mohiṁ, nainana-saina sikhāya
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
A gopī who is steeped in Shyāmasundara’s love, says to her friend very innocently, “Oh sakhi! Teach me the art of ogling.” Her friend asked, “What will you do by learning it? Do you plan to attack someone with it?” The gopī replied, “Oh sakhi! Yesterday, I had gone to the bank of the river Yamunā for bringing water. Coming there unexpectedly, that naughty Shyāmasundara shot my heart with the arrows of His ogles so badly that immediately after sighing ‘oh!’ I fell on the ground in a swoon. So if you teach me the art of ogling, I will take revenge on Him by shooting Him with my ogles in such a way that He too falls unconscious.” At this, Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī said to the gopī, “Oh sakhi! The mere movement of the eyes, devoid of divine love, cannot make anyone fall unconscious. This is something which belongs to the world of rasikas. This cannot be learnt or taught.”
