sakhi! hari, ‘chhū-mantara’ soṁ kari gayo
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
A gopī meets beloved Shyāmasundara for the first time and relating this sweet meeting to her most intimate friend, she says, “Oh sakhi! Today, Shyāmasundara cast a magic spell on me, as if by reading some hymns of hypnotism. I had gone to fetch water from the river Yamunā. Oh sakhi! It was there that Shyāmasundara fell into my eyes like a kirkirī (a very minute particle of a pebble). After this, my eyes, meeting with the Beloved’s eyes, had some conversation with them. And immediately after that, oh sakhi, Shyāmasundara stole away my heart. And now, my mind refuses to be at rest even for a moment all day and night by any means whatsoever. Oh sakhi, that Shyāmasundara has filled my eyes with the water of tears forever. Now, without Him, even a moment has become as long as a kalpa for me. Oh sakhi! That Trickster has placed, as if a mountain of the pain of separation on my heart.” Seeing this virahiṇī’s above mentioned external states of pain, Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī humbly says to himself, “You were extremely foolish to be afraid of loving Shyāmasundara seeing the pain of the virahiṇī. The fact is, there is an infinite bliss of union in that separation which can be experienced to its fullest only by a virahiṇī.”
