Shri Krishna Madhuri · Pad 50
hamāro bāṁko sundara shyāma
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
(In our scriptures, the Divine Love has been compared with the crawling of a snake that never walks straight but when entering a hole, slips in straight with great speed. Likewise, Love is crooked from outside, but straight from within. Bhagwan Kṛishṇa is the incarnation of Divine Love. Therefore, everything about Him is naturally crooked. The same has been described in the following beautiful pada of Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī. Apart from the beauty of the meaning, the use of only one word ‘bāṁkā’ or ‘bāṁkī’, depending on the gender, greatly enhances the beauty of the pada. To avoid lessening the beauty of the pada to certain extent, I have also used the same word giving its meaning in that particular context in the bracket.) “Our Shyāmasundara is extremely bāṁko (crooked). The decoration dangling from His peacock-feathered crown is bāṁkī (arched) and so are His curly locks of hair. The shifting of His eye-brows is also bāṁkī (twisting). The besara hanging from His nose is excessively bāṁkī (slanting). His eyes as well as His loving side-glances are also bāṁkī (askew). The pītāmbara swaying from around His neck is also bāṁkā (not straight). His utterly sweet slow smile as well as His neck is also bāṁkī (curved) and His anklets as well as His feet are also bāṁke (twisted). Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says that the crookedness of everything about Him is imbued with endless beauty and sweetness. What to say more, even all His actions are bāṁke (not straight).
