Prem Madhuri · Pad 5
prīti sakhi nāgini sī bala khāya
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
A gopī addressing her friend says, ‘Oh sakhi! The gait (course) of love is very crooked like that of a female snake. In the beginning, this love seems to provide nothing but nectarean bliss, but later on, the lover experiences it to be as painful as the spread of poison all over the body. What seems to be only a matter of joke to a premikā in the state of sweet union with her Beloved becomes fatal in the state of separation. All premikās, drinking the nectar of sweet association with their Beloved, become enraptured with bliss, but no sooner does the Beloved get out of their sight than even a moment seems to them like a kalpa.’ Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says that a virahiṇī can neither die nor live; she only writhes in pain in the hope of meeting her Beloved again.
