Siddhanta Madhuri · Pad 98
lāla sama lālahiṁ niṭhura kṛipāla
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
Shyāmasundara can be compared only with Himself in cruelty and mercy. The ever-abiding apparent contradictions alone identify Brahma Shyāmasundara. On one hand, His heart is softer than even butter, but on the other hand, that same heart is also harder than a thunderbolt. Becoming cruel, He gave separation to the milkmaids of Braja who surrendered their everything to Him, but showing His merciful aspect, He accepted such an ugly and deformed woman as Kubjā as His beloved and amorously played with her, merely because she applied a tilaka on His forehead. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says, “Don’t be misled by what has just been said. This is merely Shyāmasundara’s sweet līlās of love. In reality, He is nothing else but merciful.”
