Siddhanta Madhuri · Pad 67
kāma prema nā, prema kāma nā
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
Lust (i.e. the desire to please oneself) cannot be love and love cannot be lust. Lust is altogether without love and love is absolutely devoid of lust. Lust is like darkness whereas love is like the Sun; therefore, it is totally impossible for the two to ever live at one place. Love is motivated just by one goal and that is to make one’s Beloved happy but lust is characterised by the desire to please oneself alone. It does not have even a tinge of the wish for Beloved’s happiness. Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī says that the indisputable conclusion is that because of being exactly opposite of each other, love and lust cannot even confront each other at one place. The inference is that one, who wants to attain love, must abandon the desires up to that of liberation altogether.
