ūdho!, hama pūchhati ika bāta
Original pad by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj
English meaning
Gopīs addressing Uddhava, a man of wisdom, state, “We want you to clear one doubt of ours. You state that this world is merely an illusion. This greatly surprises us. You believe that Brahma (the Supreme God) pervades each and every particle of this entire world. But you also opine that the individual soul is no other than the Supreme God Himself. How can the above definition of God that He is all-pervading, apply to the individual soul, who is subtler than even an atom? Secondly, when there exists nothing besides God, what is that false element which you say, appears before your eyes as the world? Again, why does this illusion in the form of the world continue to exist even for that man of wisdom who attains the knowledge of God and consequently gets rid of all illusions? Answer this.” Jagadguru Shrī Kripālu Jī comments, “Uddhava was unable to answer these questions and therefore, was extremely mortified.”
