सुधा भी है हलाहल भी है लखु बामा।

आँखें मधुभरी मधुशाला जनु श्यामा॥

sudhā bhī hai halāhala bhī hai lakhu bāmā

āṁkheṁ madhubharī madhuśhālā janu śhyāmā

Shri Shyama’s eyes have the combined effect of wine,

ambrosia and poison. The redness of the eyes and the

power of those eyes to make one forget the external

world are like the intoxication of madhu, the wine. The

whiteness of the eyes and the power to confer

immortality upon attaining their vision is sudha, the

ambrosia. The black part of the eyes and the pain they

give in separation can be compared to the effect of

halahal, the poison.
