personality soaked in the bliss of divine love left the

learned gathering completely spellbound. They

unanimously admitted that he was not only a great

scholar of the Vedas and all other scriptures, but also an

embodiment of divine love. They then unanimously

honoured him with the title of ‘Jagadguru’. They also

declared that Shri Maharaj Ji is ‘Jagadguruttam,’ supreme

amongst all Jagadgurus.

samabhyarchyate

This historic event happened on January 14, 1957.

At that time Shri Maharaj Ji was all of 34 years. It is

worth knowing that Shri Maharaj Ji is more than just a

successor to the earlier Jagadgurus. Kashi Vidvat Parishat

honoured him with the title of the fifth “original

Jagadguru” of the world. Prior to him only four Saints

were honoured with the original title of Jagadguru. They

are Jagadguru Shri Shankaracharya, Jagadguru Shri

Ramanujacharya, Jagadguru Shri Nimbarkacharya and

Jagadguru Shri Madhvacharya.

Thus in the present times Jagadguru Swami Shri

Kripalu Ji Maharaj is the fifth Jagadguru in the world’s

history. He propounds the philosophy of reconciliation

while he has proved the philosophical doctrines of all

the four previous Jagadgurus to be true. Shri Kripalu Ji

Maharaj is of the view that there are many paths that

lead us to God realization and yet the path of bhakti is

the best and easily accessible to all.
