श्याम हैं कसौटी सम स्वर्ण सम श्यामा।

स्वर्ण में कसौटी रंग लगे नाहिं बामा॥

śhyāma haiṁ kasauṭī sama svarṇa sama śhyāmā

svarṇa meṁ kasauṭī raṅga lage nāhiṁ bāmā

O Gopi! Shyamsundar's dark complexion is black like a

kasauti stone (which is used to test the purity of gold)

and Shyama’s complexion is like gold. When gold is

rubbed on a kasauti, it tests the gold’s authenticity, but

the blackness of the kasauti does not affect the gold.

Therefore, Shyamsundar's dark complexion cannot have

any adverse effect on Shyama’s fair complexion.
